About Me

I have been marketing and growing companies throughout Canada and the United States for more than 30 years. I am a highly experienced Chief Marketing Officer who has worked with more than 150 public and private sector clients of all types and sizes, especially those with sales between $4 million and $100 million.

Early Training and Experience as a CEO

My career path is rich in experience and specialized training. After graduating from the Queen’s School of Business with my B.Comm., I discovered that I loved leading and coaching teams. I was promoted to my first General Manager’s position (GM of BTR Canada) at age 27. During my early 30s, I returned to Queen’s to complete my MBA and then worked as a turnaround CEO for two Toronto-based multi-national packaging conglomerates: Innopac Inc. and Lawson Mardon Group. While at Lawson in 1985, I helped CEO Larry Tapp engineer the $559 million leveraged buyout of Lawson & Jones and its parent, Mardon Packaging, at the time the largest LBO in Canadian business history.

My First Start-Up

Prior to my career as a professional marketer, I founded Packaging Connections (PC), an industrial sales agency that represented U.S. and European manufacturers in Canada. Three weeks after starting PC in my basement, I landed my first order for $420,000 U.S. from Lever Brothers in Toronto. I grew PC into a thriving $40 million sales business, selling the company six years later to fund the start of my second business, Marketing Breakthroughs (MB).

Building a Career as a Syndicated Radio Broadcaster

Two years after starting MB, I began working part-time as a the host of a syndicated daily radio show.. I developed and syndicated the show CareerWise across Canada in partnership with the CHUM Radio Network. This led to the publication of my bestselling book, JobWise and a second nationally syndicated show, A Motivational Minute.

A Specialist in Digital Marketing

I founded MB’s Digital Marketing Division in 2006, and since then, I have specialized in digital marketing, pay-per-click advertising, website and social media lead generation, e-store marketing and website user experience design. While CEO of MB, I designed dozens of successful multi-channel advertising campaigns for clients, especially Reliance Holmes Heating, Preston Hardware and Greely Sand & Gravel. These ad campaigns attracted thousands of new customers and generated millions of dollars in new sales for these and many other clients.

Writing and Producing Ads for Over 20 Years

During my 20 years as MB’s Creative Director, I wrote content for over 75 websites and e-stores. I have written and produced hundreds of radio, television, direct mail and video commercials, as well as over 150 digital campaigns on Google, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

My clients consider me an expert in helping them grow by attracting new customers and building new revenue streams. I am known for my game-changing strategies, innovative tactics and out-of-the-box thinking.

I sold MB in 2019 and four months later left the company on an 24-month sabbatical. In late 2022, I founded Klein Marketing, a new Fractional CMO and Contract Marketing Firm.
