Thanks to a referral from Franco Frangione of Canada Retirement, I first met Mario Giannetti, the President and Co-owner of Preston Hardware, in the Spring of 2007. Soon after, Mario introduced me to his brother Sam and his brother-in-law Mario Frangione.
Their story began in 1973 when they bought Locatelli’s Hardware on Preston Street and renamed it Preston Hardware. Under their leadership, the business grew steadily during the next three decades, building a reputation as "Canada’s Largest Independent Hardware Store.”
I recall vividly my first meeting with them in their new boardroom on Preston Street. They were in the middle of a major expansion and were adding a second floor and more than 20,000 sq. ft. in retail and warehouse space.
